The wine is made at the La Celestina winery, which is owned by and has the same team as the well-known neighboring winery Dominio de Atauta. With La Celestina, the team from Dominio de Atauta wants to show a broad and balanced interpretation of Ribera del Duero with a wine that has the character of perfectly ripe fruit. In La Celestina, they convincingly and successfully blend the many different expressions found in Ribera del Duero. The grapes come from 60-80 year old vines that grow between 780-980 meters in altitude in the two areas of Soria and Burgos, which respectively. express finesse and elegance as well as fullness and body.

The town of Atauta is located in the Soria region in the eastern part of Ribera del Duero and has only about 1000 inhabitants but a long wine history. 600 years ago, the vineyards were built directly into the limestone cliffs. In 1999, Dominio de Atauta continued the tradition with a modern winery carved into the cliff side. From the outside, it looks like a modest farmhouse, but the house has 3 floors below it. On each floor, a step in the vinification process takes place. Gravity replaces pumps and transports the wine to the next stage of vinification one floor below. In terms of wine, the Atauta valley is unique in that it avoided the phylloxera vine louse. That is why vines older than 150 years can be found here. The isolated location and a layer of sand at the top of the soil are probably the most important reasons. The Atauta valley is only 1x4 km., where the vineyard has 15 ha. and manages the cultivation and gets grapes from 30 ha. more. The land is divided into approximately 500 small plots between 980 and 1050 m. above sea level, with many variations in soil and sun exposure, which provides an exciting but complicated puzzle when composing the wines. Warm days and cold nights ripen the grapes slowly and ensure the combination of fruit depth and juiciness that complement each other so well in the wines. The cultivation methods are biodynamic and organic but not certified.
