Château d'Astros – A Templar Heritage in the Heart of Provence
More than just a vineyard, Château d'Astros is a historical gem whose roots go back to the 13th century, where the Knights Templar settled on the fertile Argens plain to cultivate the land. Later continued by the Knights of Malta, Astros became a real estate during the French Revolution when it was acquired by the wealthy soapmaker Maximin Martin from Marseilles.
Since then, the castle has been in the hands of the family, and in 1970 became the first AOP Côtes de Provence produced under the direction of Bernard Maurel, who modernized the property and planted new grape varieties. Today, Château d'Astros is managed by Bruno Maurel, 8th generation of the family, continuing the castle's heritage and passion for wine.
The vineyard is particularly known for its red and rosé wines that express Provence in its purest form. With the organic conversion in 2021 Château d'Astros is committed to cultivating the land with respect and sustainability so that future generations can enjoy the authentic and elegant wines of this historic chateau.
